Betsson.com Sets Guinness World Record® For World’s Largest Ever Jackpot Payout
Online gaming company Betsson.com has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest ever jackpot payout in an online slots game. The lucky winner is a young male student who received €11,736,375 (£10,272,600, $15,844,900).
The official record entry in the Guinness World Records reads: “The largest jackpot payout in an online slots game is €11,736,375, won by a player on Betsson.com on the ‘Mega Fortune’ game paid to an anonymous player in Norway, on 24 September 2011.”
When contacted, the winner, who is from the community of Hordaland in Norway said that he went home after a night out, watched a movie and played a few games on Betsson.com because he could not sleep. The decision to play online made him 11.7 million euros richer. Of course, it did not help him sleep, and he admitted that he stayed awake until 06:00 due to the shock. As to his prize money, the young man said, “I need to try calm down before even thinking of what I’ll do with the money!”
The game which netted him the big prize is the aptly named ‘Mega Fortune’, a slot game which offers an enormous and very attractive jackpot.
Henrik Persson, the CEO of Betsson, said that although he had never expected that his company would be awarded a Guinness World Record, he could not think of a better record for Betsson to be awarded. He said, “Breaking the record for a payout to a player is the best way to show people that not only can you win big when playing on Betsson.com, but also demonstrates that this is what Betsson is about. We caught up with our lucky winner to see how things have been going since for him since September. We’re pleased to see that he is as well as ever, and is talking about buying a new head set. Hearing this, his brother laughs and says that humour is still intact within the family. The winner goes on to say that maybe, just maybe, he’ll consider buying himself a

The winner of the huge jackpot tells us that he had some busy weeks after the win, but that most things are back to normal at the moment. “I had an intense exam period, but I hope and believe I did well.”
After his big win on Mega Fortune, the young winner received financial advice and other practical tips from the betting company Betsson.com.
“I´ve been to Malta and I saw how the Betsson group operates, so they have been really helpful.”
We met the winner in Bergen on another rainy day and we joked about how the west cost of Norway is the new “Verdal”, as Betsson has paid out jackpots amounting to almost 150 million in just under two years to that area. Our winner said “Maybe the weather is the explanation. When the weather is really bad like this, you don´t have that many options besides being inside with your computer.”
The lucky computer on which he made the win has now been replaced with a new PC, and the jackpot winner wants to be able to relax in the future, without the media. “There have been a lot of inquiries, both from the banks and the media, but I don´t plan to show up in the media. This will be the last interview about the prize and all the money, and I hope that the media and others will respect that.”
During our 2 hour talk we spoke about some things he wants to do in autumn, but there aren’t many big upcoming events for the millionaire who after all is just in his 20´s.
He has never seen Liverpool play live, so he’s thinking about taking a trip to Anfield.
The record breaking winner says that he had problems sleeping the first week after the enormous jackpot win. Very understandable of course.
This prize is the most a Norwegian has ever won in a bet/game – and the biggest ever online win. In typical understated fashion, our winner says “It´s nice to have that title, and to be in the Guinness world record book!”
